Ten High? Kentucky Gentleman? I’m curious to know, because apparently the gods can’t get enough Budweiser.

I just came across this advertisement from 1906, featuring an unconscious (passed out?) Ganymede clutching a bottle of Bud as he’s carried into the clouds by a bald eagle. It’s hailed as the “Introduction of Budweiser to the Gods.”

Ganymede, for those who have forgotten (and Wikipedia helped me unforget), was the most beautiful of mortals, who was abducted by Zeus in the form of an eagle to act as a cup-bearer (waiter?) on Mt. Olympus.

Wow – that’s quite a different feel than sponsoring a NASCAR or those ads where the lizards appear to fart on each other while screaming the word “Budweiser.” Still, I might actually prefer the lizards.
